Festool SYS-Rock Radio

4/5

The New Festool SYS-Rock Radio is the newest radio on the market and in the typical Festool fashion, it’s pretty nice. Sized similarly to the Festool SYS-Lite the Festool SYS-Rock Radio weighs less than 2 lbs.

It features FM Radio reception, blue-tooth streaming, hands-free calling, aux-in, a 2.5″ 10 Watt 8 Ohm Neodymium speaker and Digital Sound Processor (DSP). Probably the most interesting new feature on the radio is its ability to use the radio as a hands free phone, through blue-tooth functionality. A built-in microphone lets you take calls from your phone hands free.

FM Radio and More

The radio is powered either with a dual-source energy options allow the SYS-Roc to use either the supplied power cord or use Festool flat pack batteries (10.8 through 18.0 volt). The 1/4″- 20 internal mount is compatible with Festool Magnetic SysLite adapter so you can attach the SYS-Roc nearly anywhere or mount it to a commonly available camera tripod. A hanging hook is supplied as well.

The Festool SYS-Rock Radio features “Radio Data System” (RDS) which provides data from FM broadcasting stations to provide song information, artist, and time of day.Four (4) station presets allow you to store your most frequented stations. An antenna fold up and stores down out of the way when not in use. Signal strength and other feedback features are displayed on the radio screen.

Festool SYS-Rock Radio Durability

The Festool SYS-Rock Radio has an IPX3 Rating making it splash resistant. It has sufficient rubber over mold and a carry / storage bag to keep it protected during transport. The top of the SYS-Rock has a large green on/off button and just behind this power switch with is a rubber cap that protects the Aux / MP3 cable.

The speaker screen is robust and durable as is the SYS-Rocks outer housing.

Mounting

The SYS-Rock can be hung from its internal hanging hood or mount on a tripod. It features a 1/4″-20 threaded insert to easily make this tripod connection. The hook adapter is only able to be used when connected to AC power. This hook adapter is actually removed when attaching a battery to the SYS-Rock.

Festool SYS-Rock Radio Run-time

I ran the Festool SYS-Rock Radio on an 18 volt battery and got approximately four [4] hours. This time will vary depending on the changes in volume and functions. I’d like to see Festool stretch this run time number to 8 hours.

Overall Impression

I really like the size / weight ration compared to the sound quality and volume capacity that the Festool SYS-Rock Radio has. I’m a fan of lightweight tools and efficiency, these days there is no reason to be carting aground a huge anvil sized radio.
