RIDGID LM-400 Advanced Laser Distance Measure Preview

RIDGID LM-400 Front-ViewCruising around the web today reading some of our industry friend’s sites, Chris over at Tool-Rank.com posted about RIDGID tools releasing a new laser distance measure with advanced features. Like the new Bosch GLM 100 C, it integrates with a smart phone app to visualize and record measurements. I love that tools are starting to integrate with technology in areas where it makes sense. I’m sure most of us have roughed out a room, building, or lot on a notepad and then ran around with either a tape measure or a laser distance measure and then jotted down the dimensions on the sketch. Well now you can do it all from your smartphone or tablet. This is going to be awesome for estimates.

  • Clearly view measurements on the large, backlit, 4-line display
  • Inclination angle measurement allows indirect measurements for hard to reach areas
  • Adjust units instantly to inches, feet, or meters
  • Bluetooth® connection to smartphones and tablets to view, store, and share data
  • Android® and iOS® Apps to overlay measurements onto a photo or sketch

Device integration

The application goes by the name RIDGID SKETCH and is available now for both iOS and Android. I downloaded it and it seems pretty handy even without the Laser Distance Measure (LDM). It was really easy to draw a room in 2D and insert the height so that it calculates perimeter, wall area, floor area, and volume. You can even select individual walls and it will list length and wall area for that specific wall. Pretty cool features. The LDM connected with Bluetooth makes these features even more useful.
