Makita® Expands 18V Lithium-Ion Tool Line-up

Makita® Now Offers 70 Cordless Power Tools on 18V Platform

Makita 4Ah BatteryLa Mirada, CA – Makita has the world’s largest 18V lithium-ion cordless tool line-up* with over 70 tools powered by one 18V LXT® battery that reaches a full charge in only 30 minutes. This is the latest in a growing list of industry milestones by Makita:

  • Created the 18V Lithium-Ion cordless tool category
  • Created the industry’s first 18V slide battery mounting system
  • Created the 18V Compact (1.5Ah) Lithium-Ion category
  • Created the industry’s first ENERGY STAR® qualified battery charger
  • At 15 minutes and 30 minutes, Makita has the industry’s fastest 18V battery charge times
  • Commercialized the cordless impact driver category
  • Developed and commercialized the industry’s first brushless tools
  • Created 18V X2 LXT®, the industry’s first 36V cordless tools powered by two 18V Lithium-Ion

2013 marked continued expansion with new Makita 18V solutions for metalworking, concrete and woodworking, 18V and 18V X2 (36V) trimmers and blowers, a new 18V 4-port charger, and more. These new 18V additions provide contractors with more cordless options for industrial applications.

“The performance and breadth-of-line that contractors get from Makita LXT® is unmatched in the industry,” said Mario Lopez, cordless product manager, Makita U.S.A. “From primary tools like drills and impact drivers to secondary cordless tools like rotary hammers, outdoor power equipment and more, Makita 18 volt LXT® delivers more cordless solutions with the power and run-time that contractors require, with charge times that leaves the competitor batteries sitting idle in the job box,”

“Right now, the real question is, ’what can your 18 volt battery do for you?’ With Makita LXT®, the answer is more work, less downtime, and unmatched breadth-of-line for pro applications, even for jobs that traditionally called for a corded tool.”

Here is a preview of new cordless innovation on the way:

18V X2 LXT® Lithium-Ion (36V) 7-1/4″ Circular Saw (XSH01Z tool only)

The XSH01 sets a new industry standard with the most power and run-time of any cordless saw on the market. The XSH01 is powered by two 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion batteries for 36V power and run-time, allowing contractors to “cut the cord” while remaining in the strongly-preferred 18V platform. With a 7-1/4″ blade, the XSH01Z is a true game-changer for framers, roofers, remodelers, masons, and more. (winter 2014)

18V LXT® BL™ Brushless Lithium-Ion ½” Hammer Driver-Drill (XPH07) and XPH07Z (tool only)

The XPH07 will break new ground in the ½” Hammer Driver-Drill category. True to engineering excellence, the XPH07 will lead the industry in torque, speed, and run time, and will also have the fastest battery charge time. Positioned at the top of Makita’s deep line-up of driver-drills, the XPH07 is a workhorse tool for the most demanding drilling and driving applications. The model will also be available in a Driver-Drill (XFD07) and (XFD07Z tool only). (summer 2014)

18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Compact Portable Band Saw Kit (XBP01) and XPB01Z (tool only)

The XPB01 has 25% less weight than competitor 18V portable band saws. Contractors require speed and portability for cordless metal-cutting applications, and Makita delivers with faster cutting speed and 2-1/2″ capacity in a more compact size, with the fastest charge time. (spring 2014)

18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Compact Recipro Saw Kit (XRJ01) and XRJ01 Z (tool only)

This versatile cordless recipro saw combines variable speed and 1/2″ stroke length with an exclusive dual-position on/off switch that allows for either paddle or trigger switch operation. Contractors get faster, more efficient cutting along with the convenience of “tool-less” blade changes and a fast charge time. (spring 2014)

18V LXT® Lithium-Ion BL™ Brushless 1/2″ Hammer Driver-Drill (XPH06) and XPH06Z (tool only)

Makita has the industry’s deepest line-up of industrial drill-drivers with over eight 18V drills. Each drill is especially designed with application-specific solutions that range from more compact and longer run-time to high-torque – plus all are powered by the fast charging system. With the majority of holes drilled on jobsites in the 1/8″ to 1/4″ range, the XPH06 is positioned at the heart of the category with an unmatched power-to-weight ratio, a brushless motor for longer run time, and additional durability features including all-metal gears and Extreme Protection Technology (XPT™) for increased resistance to dust and moisture that are found on all jobsites. (winter 2014). Available now in a combo kit (18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless 2-Pc Combo Kit, XT248, which includes XPH06Z and XDT08Z Impact Driver).

18V LXT® Lithium-Ion 4.0 Ah Battery (BL1840)

The Makita 4.0 Ah Lithium-Ion battery will deliver longer run time and reach a full charge in only 40 minutes: nearly 1 hour faster than competitor 4.0 Ah batteries. Makita understands that the most expensive asset on a jobsite is labor, so the less time a battery sits on the charger, the more time it’s on the tool. This means more work and less downtime. The Makita 4.0 Ah battery not only provides contractors with longer run time, it also delivers a category-leading charge time that is only 10 minutes more than the category-leading LXT® 3.0 Ah Battery. (summer 2014)

Expanding 12V max Line-Up

Makita’s expanding 12V max cordless line-up now stands at ten, and more tools are on the way. 12V max delivers ultra-compact solutions for drilling, driving, fastening, and cutting, as well as accessories that include flashlights and a vacuum. 12V max is ideal for service applications, HVAC, and woodworking.

12V max Lithium-Ion Cordless 3/8″ Angle Drill Kit (AD02W)

The AD02W is a compact solution for drilling and driving in tight spaces. At only 3-1/2″, the angle head with keyless chuck is the most compact in the category.  It also has an easy-to-operate paddle switch, L.E.D. lights, and less weight. (December 2013)
