DEWALT 20V 5 Inch Cordless Random Orbital Sander

DEWALT DCW210B 20V Cordless XR Sander Review

There’s something satisfying to sanding our project to a smooth surface. Sanders have come a long way, and now were starting to see cordless sanders come on the market.

Dewalt Cordless Sander

The DEWALT 20V 5 Inch Cordless Random Orbital Sander is one more tool for the woodworking and carpentry trades. This new sander addition is part of the XR line [Extended Runtime] and that gets me excited.

Brushless Motor

Its brushless motor is designed to give you almost 1-hour runtime on a 5.0 ah battery.

Compact Size

The sander has a nice rubber over-mold handle to reduce fatigue from vibrations. This sander compact, easy to manage size and weighs only 1.9 lbs. This sander has a lowered body that allows you to get closer to the work surface for more control and clearance when sanding.

Variable Speed

An easy to reach, variable-speed dial, located at the top of the tool, next to the power switch. This one-handed speed adjustment provides speed control from 8,000 – 12,000 oscillations per minutes.

The power switch on this tool is a rocker switch with a rubber boot sealing out dust and debris. Switches are a common week link on dust producing tools – nicely done Dewalt.

Sanding Pad

The 8-hole hook-and-loop Velcro sanding pad is straight forward and has nothing new to report.

Dust Collection

We especially liked the one-handed, easy to lock dust bag. The attachment connection on the dust port attaches securely to the DWV010 or DWV012 dust collectors.

Making vacuum hose connections to the dust collection required me using an adapter I had in my shop – not easy. Dewalt should provide an adapter to simplify that.

Using the DEWALT 20V 5 Inch Cordless Random Orbital Sander

We really liked using this sander. Its powerful, and low vibration. The dust collection bag works good, and when hooked up to dust collection its awesome.

While we did not get continuous use testing we got well over an hour of off and on use. ACME tools tested this sander and were able to achieve approx. 1-hour of continuous use on a 5.0 Ah battery.

Features

  • Brushless Motor
  • Dust Collection – Included easy-to-attach dust bag for dust collection
  • AirLock – Fits directly onto DeWalt dust collector models DWV010 and DWV012
  • Compact Design
  • Sealed Switch – Helps prevent dust infiltration to extend life
  • Variable Speed Control
  • Height: 5.1”
  • Length: 7.1”
  • Weight- 1.9 pounds without battery and dust bag, 2.1 pounds with dust bag attached
  • Rubber texturized gripping surfaces for comfort

Improvements

I used this sander off and on on various projects in my shop and absolutely love it. I do think Dewalt needs to make the dust vac hose attachment simpler for us as users. Not everybody has a Dewalt vac to hook up to the sander.

Price

The brushless 5-Inch Random Orbit Sander comes in a few configurations:

  • Kitted with a 5.0Ah Battery for $249 MSRP (DCW210P1)
  • Kitted with a 2.0Ah Battery for $199 MSRP (DCW210D1
  • Bare tool for $118 MSRP (DCW210B)
DEWALT 20V 5 Inch Cordless Random Orbital Sander
$119 bare / $249 kitted

Bottom line guys is if your using cordless tools – you need a cordless sander.
