We’ve all heard the phrase “Size Matters.” When it comes to impacting tools, a compact size can matter a lot when your working in restricted space areas. The new Bosch 12V brushless impact drivers may be small but their a mighty force is capable of driving commercial-grade fasteners.

  • Bosch PS42 impact driver: when attached to a 2.0 Ah battery weighs only 2-pounds, and delivers 975 In.-Lbs. of torque.
  • Bosch PS82 impact wrench: when attached to a 2.0 Ah batter weighs only 2.s-pounds, and 85 Ft./Lbs. of torque.

Durability

Both tools feature Bosch EC brushless motor and all-metal gearbox for longevity and durability. the housings on the Bosch feature a Durashield™ housing, which is a tough, flexible exterior that withstands drops and harsh job site conditions.

Optimized Impact Systems

Both tools feature optimized impact systems in a compact package. The head length for the impact driver is 5.4-inches and 5.5 inches for impact wrench.  These tools were designed and optimized to perform well in wood- and metal-fastening tasks.

2 Speed Settings

Both tools offer two speed settings:

  • High speed and high torque
  • Low speed and low torque

Speed setting are useful in controlling and matching the proper torque to prevent over-tightening or broken fasteners.  These tools offer no-load rpm ratings of 0-1,200 and 0-2,600 rpm; no-load bpm ratings are 0-2,700 and 0-3,100.

LED Lighting

Both units include a 3-LED light ring to illuminate the working end of the tool.  The light works well and does not produce annoying shadows!

I loved having what felt like the power of an 18-volt tool in a compact, small package.  These tools are useful and to be honest I found myself reaching for them for almost 80% of the task I need or want an impactor for. I love the size to power ratio!

I can see Bosch working on extended batteries to improve run time on thee tools – so far we have no complaints!!

Conclusion

There is definitely a place in the shop and job site for 12-volt tools,especially since they are becoming more powerful, smaller and ergonomic. These tools are powerful enough to handle many commercial-grade fasteners. Their lightweight design facilitates long term usage, eliminating user fatigue, and making them an ideal solution for overhead applications.
