FastCap – 3rd Hand Little Hand XL

As a remodeling carpenter, I’ve hung cabinets a lot of different ways. Mostly I would screw a ledger board screwed to the wall. Other times, with help, I ganged cabinets together and installed them as one unit. A few years ago I saw plans for an adjustable, cabinet jack jig in an article, it was simple to make, utilized 2×4 scraps, some plywood and c-clamps. Being the industrious type, I made a pair and have been using them for a few years. I recently discovered the 3rd Hand Little Hand XL from FastCap.

Telescoping and Capacity

The 3rd Hand Little Hand XL lifts the cabinets, allowing the installer to a level and position. It has a 150-pound capacity, with oversized 6-inch x 6-inch Support Feet. The Little Hand jack have a lever that raises the jack to the desired height.  The jacks come in pairs and telescope from 23.5” to 38.” After the cabinets are installed, the jacks are easily removed by releasing a lever.

Solo Installations

Installing kitchen cabinets isn’t that far-fetched for a one person, the 3rd Hand Little Hand XL is perfect to place upper cabinets. I install the base cabinets first, then place ¾” plywood down on top. The plywood acts as a nice working platform for tools, plans and the 3rd Hand Little Hand XL. The Little Hand can then be positioned on top of the plywood base to lift and set the upper cabinets.

Hands Free Support

Supporting upper cabinets with the 3rd Hand Little Hand XL leaves both of your hands free to add shims, check for plumb, level, and add fasteners.

3rd Hand Little Hand XL Applications

The Little Hand XL is designed to support upper cabinets after the base cabinets have been installed. It’s also useful to support sink cutouts and for lifting and spreading parts. I’m sure as time goes on, I’ll find additional applications for them. Fast Cap also sells different lengths of the 3rd Hand system.

Cost

The 3rd Hand Little Hand XL is sold as a 2-piece system with a carrying bag and costs approximately $ 69.00 online .
