We took a look at the new Milwaukee M18 FUEL Metal-Cutting Circular Saw 2782-22. This new Metal-Cutting Circular Saw features a lightweight housing and gearing system.

As part of the M18 FUEL lineup, the Metal-Cutting Circular Saw features three Milwaukee innovations:

  1. POWERSTATE Brushless Motor that spins at 3,900 RPM. The brushless motor lasts longer, then a brushed motor and it converts energy into power more efficiently.  This gives the M18 Metal-Cutting Circular Saw the ability to deliver the power and speed needed to minimize bogging down during metal cutting applications
  2. REDLINK PLUS electronics integrate full-circle communication between tool, battery and charger to protect them from overloading, overheating, and over-discharging. These electronic protections help maintain ideal conditions for maximum application performance.
  3. REDLITHIUM XC 5.0 batteries deliver more runtime for the tool. Milwaukee claims 40% more cuts than the competition, with 370 cuts in EMT. [Electrical Metal Tubing]

Capacity

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Metal-Cutting Circular Saw measures 14.8” long, and weighs 6.5 lbs. It has the capacity to cut through a wide range of small diameter metal, 2-1/4” Cut Capacity (with 5-7/8” blade)

We used it to cut 1/8 to ¼ bar stock, U channel, EMT, ¾” gas pipe and square metal tubing. The saw cut smoothly and with ease.

Features

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Metal-Cutting Circular Saw  has an innovative hanging hook that is bult into the tools support handle. This hook unclips and folds out for use, and then stows nicely inside the handle when done.

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Metal-Cutting Circular Saw has an electric brake that stops the saw within 2-seconds, which is a nice safety feature

An LED light is located behind the transparent front guard, we found it illuminated the cut are ok, but not great.

Lightweight

This Milwaukee M18 FUEL Metal-Cutting Circular Saw was purposefully designed to be lightweight and as a result is not as sturdy a saw as I’d prefer. For example, the shoe plate, spindle lock and the depth adjusting bar could all be beefier. It all comes down to a tradeoff for making this tool lighter, working overhead, etc.

Adjustments

The only adjustment on the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Metal-Cutting Circular Saw is the depth-of-cut adjustment. This lever is simple and easy to operate.

Cost

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL Metal-Cutting Circular Saw is available: April 2017 and will be sold as a kit and bare tool

  • $399 (kit)
  • $199 (bare tool)

The kit includes

  • M18 FUEL™ Metal-Cutting Circular Saw
  • (2) M18 XC 5.0 Compact Battery Packs
  • M12/M18 Multi Voltage Charger
  • 30T Blade
  • Contractor Bag

Overall Impression

This new metal cutting saw is an example of Milwaukee commitment to improving productivity by providing performance-driven and trade-focused solutions on one battery system.
