PORTER-CABLE® Launches New Oscillating Tools

PORTER-CABLE® Launches New, Oscillating Tools with the Tool Free System™ for Corded and Cordless Models

Back in January I reported from the 2011 International Builder’s Show that Porter-Cable was coming out with some Oscillating Tools and they are finally officially released. Joining the ever crowded selection of oscillating tools Porter-Cable is offering a great Tool Free System to help set them apart from other selections.

Check out their press release for the official announcement. We’ll be sure to get our hands on one soon to report back on their performance!

TOWSON, Md. (March 31, 2011) – PORTER-CABLE announces the launch of its new corded (PC250MTK) and cordless (PCL120MTC-2) oscillating multi-tools. Both models have been designed to offer remodelers, carpenters, general contractors and a number of other professionals the quality and control they need to complete a variety of applications, including: cutting wood, drywall, and nails; sanding; grout removal; and scraping paint and caulk.

The units incorporate contractor-driven innovation such as the patent-pending, Tool Free System accessory change, which gives professionals the ability to quickly and efficiently change the tools’ accessories without bolts, washers, and wrenches. By simply pressing a lever, contractors can change the accessories or adjust the accessory angle. A release of the lever ensures the accessories easily click into place, ready for the application at hand, without the need for separate bolts, washers and wrenches.

“The introduction of our two new oscillating tools represents PORTER-CABLE’s commitment to jobsite innovation that is fueled by field research with contractors,” said Derek Vlcko, senior product manager, PORTER-CABLE. “Although this category is new for PORTER-CABLE, I am confident that we’re well-positioned to enter the oscillating power tool market due to the positive feedback we have received from contractors on the innovative Tool Free System.”

Corded Model – PC250MTK

The PC250MTK 36-Piece Corded Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit utilizes PORTER-CABLE’S groundbreaking Tool Free System and includes over $150 in accessories** that allow contractors to cut, sand, grind, and scrape. The PC250MTK runs on 120V electrical power and delivers 10,000–20,000 oscillations per minute (OPM) by way of a high-torque 2.5 AMP motor that can handle almost any jobsite application. The variable speed unit has an oscillation angle of 2.8 degrees and comes equipped with a 10-foot cord for easy jobsite maneuverability. The PC250MTK features a durable injection-molded kit box to help keep the tool and accessories organized and protected on and around the jobsite.

Available in April 2011 at Lowe’s, Amazon.com and other fine retailers, the PC250MTK will retail for approximately $149. The PC250MTK 2.5 Amp Corded Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit will include 35 assorted accessories and an injection molded kit box.

Cordless Model – PCL120MTC-2

Joining PORTER-CABLE’s current 12 Volt MAX* lineup, the PCL120MTC-2 32-Piece Lithium Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit also utilizes PORTER-CABLE’s Tool Free System and includes over $135 in accessories** that allow contractors to cut, sand, grind, and scrape. The PCL120MTC-2 features an oscillation angle of 2.8 degrees and a variable-speed dial that helps provide outstanding control while delivering 7,500-15,000 OPM. At 2.2 pounds, the tool is compact, lightweight and features an ergonomic handle for a comfortable grip. In addition, an LED work light provides visibility.

Available in April 2011 through Lowe’s, the independent channel and Amazon.com, the 12 Volt MAX* Lithium Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit is expected to retail for approximately $159. The tool itself is great, however, trying to get the sandpaper for the sanding head is a joke. Everyone sells in a 6 pack having (2) each of 80, 120 and 220 grit. Enjoy the quantity of paper that comes with the tool as that is it. Others sandpaper packs that I have found that have 5,10 pieces of paper in a pack do not fit the head.
Sadly, for that reason, the tool goes back and I get [a different oscillator] that has a head that I can get sandpaper for readily.

Thanks for the feedback Charlie….I’ll look into that a bit more.

Isn’t one of the draws that you can cut your own sandpaper and it can be used with this oscillator?

I suppose you can cut your own if you start with a hook and loop piece of sand paper. Frankly I think it’s easier to buy the correct ones on Amazon.

  3. I am trying to locate the PC3031 Carbide Rasp? Does anyone know where I can locate one? I may be contacted at 316-880-2396

I bought a PCL120MT a few years back and have used it a few times. I did have one battery die and had it replaced under warranty. At that point I had only used it a couple hours. I have since used it probably 10 or so hours and am having more and more problems keeping the batteries in it, one especially. When I put it in and check it I can’t pull it out but as soon as I start it up the vibrations cause it too back out within a half a minute. Is there a fix for this? I love the tool! It has a lot of power and is very handy for many things. I would be very grateful if you could help me out!
