The thought of cordless impact wrenches used to be a fantasy until several years ago. Even then the early models were rather limited in power and run time. Fast forward to today and the fantasy has turned into reality with Milwaukee’s M18 FUEL Impact Wrench. I recently put two samples of their M18 FUEL 1/2″ High Torque Impact Wrench into the hands of our fleet mechanics at work and the response has been nothing short of shock and awe!

Milwaukee 2763-22 Impact Wrench KitThe construction company that I work for has several fleet mechanics that work on heavy construction equipment like front end loaders, bull dozers, dump trucks and excavators. We’re talking really big, heavy, powerful equipment that requires serious tools. I approached our head mechanic and asked him if he’d mind trying these new impact wrenches and he laughed at me and said they were toys and nothing like his “go to” Snap-On cordless impact wrenches. Needless to say I challenged him and asked him to give these a shot. His response after 6 months has to be one of the best testimonials I’ve heard with regards to new power tools.

Hands down the most powerful & rugged cordless power tool I’ve ever used. I never thought I’d choose another Brand over Snap-On but Milwaukee has proven me wrong. – Head Mechanic / United Construction.

He went on to say that the M18 FUEL 1/2″ Impact Wrench has so much power that he no longer uses his air wrench! Let’s just say the guys in the shop are fighting over these new impact wrenches and non of them consider these toys!

Power, Power and More Power

When it comes to an impact wrench the name of the game is power and the M18 FUEL 1/2″ High Torque Impact Wrench is one powerful beast! The 2763-22 leads the industry in torque by quite a long shot. Comparable models from other brands go as high as 450 ft-lbs of working torque compared to 700 ft-lbs with Milwaukee. And when it comes to break away torque the competition gets up to 700 ft-lbs while Milwaukee is offering 1,100 ft-lbs. It’s really obvious to me why the guys in the shop couldn’t stop raving about the impressive power.

When I walk into our shop I see these guys using this impact wrench to free old, corroded lug nuts on dump trucks, rust packed suspension parts, and massive bolts on CAT loaders. This tool simply keeps up on tasks that used to be reserved for air tools only.

Run Time – 4.0 Ah Batteries

Big power on big jobs means you need serious battery power and run time. The M18 FUEL platform with 4.0 Ah batteries fits that need. The REDLITHIUM™ XC 4.0 Extended Capacity Battery Pack offers an onboard fuel gauge so you can keep track of remaining run time.

The 4.0 batteries provide the extra run time that allows this impact wrench to compete nicely with air powered wrenches. The kit comes with two batteries which allows you to charge one while you’re using the other. In most applications this means you’ll always have power when you need it.

Built To Last

Not only is this impact wrench really powerful, it’s tougher than nails. In this shop the tools are abused as hard as any environment I can think of. The tools are dropped, dragged, smashed and tortured. This impact wrench was even dropped in a tub of gear oil and it still works! It had oil dripping out of the motor housing and it’s still working two month later.

Impressive Innovation | M18 FUEL Impact Wrench

I get to evaluate dozens of cordless tools each year and the vast majority of them are really good. Every once and awhile a new cordless tool platform blows me away and the M18 FUEL line from Milwaukee continues to impress me beyond belief.

The M18 FUEL 1/2″ High Torque Impact Wrench is one of the most impressive cordless tools I’ve ever used. The impressive innovation that Milwaukee has developed with their FUEL line is second to no other Brand right now. The combination of their POWERSTATE™ Brushless Motor, REDLITHIUM™ XC 4.0 Battery Pack, and REDLINK PLUS™ Intelligence results in a perfect storm.

If you use large impact wrenches on the job, the Milwaukee M18 FUEL Impact Wrench is a must have. You won’t be sorry, you’ll want more FUEL!

Great impact for the first 2 weeks, right until it dropped 3 feet and the cheap plastic handle broke in half. $80 for a replacement case with trigger (Didn’t need a trigger but couldn’t buy the case without it) and back in action. I like it overall but the casing is very weak, not as durable as advertised here.

I have a 1/2 inch fuel impact and I have had it a year and might have used it 6 times and it quit working and was talking to a friend today and his has done the same thing and his is about 4 months old, same problem! and I was wondering what is the problem?

Strange..we’ve had incredible luck with them. I’d have it fixed under warranty..probably a fluke
